Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber) and vibration/shaking. Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks. It has also been shown to be helpful in individuals with poor circulation. Swedish Massage involves working and acting on the body with pressure – structured, unstructured, stationary, or moving – tension, motion, or vibration, done manually or with mechanical aids. Target tissues may include muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, skin, joints, or other connective tissue, as well as lymphatic vessels, or organs of the gastrointestinal system. Massage can be applied with the hands, fingers, elbows, knees, forearm, and feet.
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
Deep Tissue Massage which is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or fascia. This type of massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity, such as athletes, and patients who have sustained physical injury. It is also not uncommon for receivers of Deep Tissue Massage to have their pain replaced with a new muscle ache for a day or two. Deep tissue work varies greatly. What one calls deep tissue another will call light. When receiving deep tissue work it is important to communicate what you are feeling.
Ashiastu Massage is a type of Registered Massage Therapy performed on the massage table, where the therapist supports themselves using overhead bars that are suspended from the ceiling for balance, while the entire massage is done with their feet. This allows the therapist to deliver varying therapeutic levels of pressure and ensuring each stroke is compressive and broad. This type of therapy is perfect for those looking for a Deep Tissue Massage and leaves the body feeling revitalized and less chance of muscle soreness post massage treatment. Ashiastu is known to be the most relaxing deep tissue massage in the world.

Myofascial release incorporates manual massage techniques to stretch the fascia and release bonds between fascia, muscles and bones. It is a direct or indirect manipulation of the body’s tissues that allows the connective tissue fibres of fascia to re-organize themselves in a more flexible, functional fashion. The goal of myofascial release is to release fascial restrictions and restore tissue health, often resulting in increased range of motion and the elimination of pain. This is typically performed with no lotion or oil. The techniques may be static or with movement.
A type of gentle massage which is intended to encourage the natural drainage of the lymph through the system, helping it to drain out of the tissues and move throughout the body. Manual lymph drainage uses a small amount of pressure and rhythmic circular movements to stimulate lymph flow.
This can be used in conjunction with other alternative therapies. It takes into account the whole person and helps activate each patient’s natural healing processes as well as restoring their physical and emotional well-being.
HOT STONE THERAPY
Hot stone massage is a natural therapy in which warmed stones are incorporated within the massage and positioned on parts of the body to maximize the therapeutic benefit. The stones used are basalt stones, which are results of volcanic eruptions, and are believed to have healing energy. The heat from the stones helps your muscles relax, allowing the massage therapist to manipulate your deep tissues more effectively. As the heat from the stone penetrates, your blood vessels open, resulting in improved circulation which can help ease aches and pains and promote relaxation.
Sports Massage which is a special form of massage and is typically used before, during, and after athletic events. The purpose of the massage is to prepare the athlete for peak performance, to drain away fatigue, to relieve swelling, to reduce muscle tension, to promote flexibility and to prevent injuries.
Pregnancy Massage which is massage therapy specifically tailored for the expectant mother’s needs. It is the massage of pregnant women (prenatal) and women after giving birth (postpartum). It addresses the special needs of pregnant women such as discomforts in the lower back, feet, and legs.
Children benefit from massage therapy in the same way adults do for medical conditions, injuries and overall health. It has also been shown that children receiving massage and experiencing nurturing touch have lower stress levels, increase their chance for better concentration at school and better sleep at home, and ultimately may have more respect for themselves and other children.
